Rusty Nails

Hey guys!!! The skies have been a little gray this past week….but what better way to lift your mood, than to wear a pop of color?  I loved this dress when I found it thrifting and mentioned it in a previous thrift haul video post.  I also got this straw clutch on the same haul and immediately thought they were a perfect match.

I went to the dollar store a week or so ago and got a little carried away with nail polishes….afterall, they were only a $1.  In addition to this yellow (which is called Neon Yellow) I also got what I would really call a Neon Yellow that I can’t wait to show you, which was my color pick of the Month for April.

The necklace I found on the street with a match of pairing earrings.  While I never wear them both together…..I thought the colors were perfect for the sunflower and rust combo!  The dress was .55 cents, and the same goes for the clutch that  I couldn’t wait to break out and get a jump on summer.  What are some of the things in your wardrobe you can’t wait to wear???

OUTFITS

Thrifted Looks: Flower Power

As a kid, I gotta admit it…I wasn’t a fan of floral print.  I think I was traumatized because my mom seized the opportunity to splash our curtains, towels, and bedspreads in it.  But, after some counseling I’ve come around (just kidding), and I immediately fell in love with this floral print dress at the Housing Works BUY THE BAG Sale at first sight.  Both the dress and cardigan were about .67 cents each.  I mean, seriously….you could get over a whole lot of childhood fashion faux pas at that price 🙂

I went back and forth on which nude pumps to be my new addition to the wardrobe…..and settled on the Steve Madden Remmedy…and I think it was a pretty good choice.  The neutral tone can compliment so many things that  you’ll wonder what your go-to shoe was before these.

I believe if you invest in a great pair of shoes or a nice designer hand bag you’ll save money in the long run with wears-per-use (I know it may not seem like it initially, but trust me) and it can tie any outfit together and give it a luxe “look” no matter how much you paid for it.

THRIFTING

Thrifted Looks: Lederhose

I’m a firm believer that fashion is what you make it. I mean after all I live in New York City….where individuality is flaunted and encouraged. So I couldn’t wait to “flex my creativity” and rock these light blue shorts I found on my last trip to the Housing Works BUY THE BAG Sale.  They’re called Lederhose (the suspenders kinda gave them away….ok, call me “Gretel”) and they are leather shorts steeped in the German tradition.

I paid about .89 cents for the shorts, and thought they’d be perfectly complimented by my navy velvet J. Crew blazer that I recently had tailored, and I’m always looking for an excuse to wear. Add a white tee from Target, navy tights, some sparkly pumps….and this monochromatic look is complete.  Durable. Versatile. Fun. For jewelry I could have easily gone with white gold, but opted to deviate from the cooler palette and added a touch of chic with a simple coin pendent and necklace and a yellow gold bracelet watch.

I mean…who says you have to wear things in the traditional sense? It’s all about thinking outside the box and making something your own. Tell me…what do you have in your closet that you could give your own spin?
