How to Thrift Shop Spring Trends
Most people assume that thrift stores are a graveyard for previous year’s colors, fabric, and generally unloved cast aways…but that I think is only partially true. Because thrift stores also carry a great deal of pieces inspired by the season’s current trends. On my recent thrifting hauls I found things like Neon Yellow, Polka Dots, Mint and Florals, that have been ripped straight from the latest runway shows.
Designer Adam Lippes signed on the “dotted line” and peppered the runway with this fun print. I say look for any way to implement a desired trend. I just love this vintage inspired Byron Lars polka dot dress that I snagged that hugs in all the right places. You could do it with something as small as a handkerchief, a blouse, or even a shoe….with dots, smaller ones are always easier to pull off, and the larger you go, be sure to let that piece stand out and pair it with a solid complimentary clothing item or accessory.
Prabal Gurung shared his love for Mint this season…..and I found it all over in tops and sweaters. Do a little tonal on tonal, or even just splash it on your nails, mint is a color that is hot this season.
Flower Power was in full force in the collections of designer’s like Joseph Altuzarra….and I found it at places like the Goodwill and Housing Works in blazers, dresses, pants, and tops (another floral post here). Whether they are large and fun or tiny and color blasted, nothing says Spring like a good dose of flowers.
Neon Yellow (especially paired with black) was popular among designers like Jason Wu and Nicole Miller this season, and since it’s one of my new fave colors, I was oh so happy to scoop up this Vera Wang wrap sweater (also pictured here and here)
I paid less than a dollar for each of these pieces….can you believe it? Because it’s like I always say…keeping up with the trends can be an expensive habit; however, if you are willing to experiment even on a tiny budget, it’s easy to thrift shop Spring trends. Tell me below….what’s your favorite thrift shop Spring Trend? 🙂
