Whether it’s just a “touch” around the collar or the full shabang….faux fur is extremely hot this season in any form. You just can’t miss it! I mean I’ve been seeing faux fur EVERYWHERE….from high end designers to thrift stores to being sold on the street. This little accent of luxury (especially in these economic times) takes any outfit up a notch, no matter what the budget…you just have to know what you are looking for and how to style it. Here are some things to remember when picking out your new fave:
1. Price – Go into your purchase with the knowledge that you are getting an alternative to the real thing that oftentimes commands the price tag of several hundred dollars, well into several thousands of dollars. Please know that the length dictates the price and while a full length faux fur coat may tend to be more appealing to a slightly older crowd and can be purchased for about $250…a younger consumer may opt for a waist-length look that you can get in the neighborhood of $100. Obviously the more you pay, the better the look and feel.
2. Look for the best quality for the price – This seems like a no-brainer….but with faux fur being so readily available, you have to keep an eye out for a really good piece no matter how much you invest. Faux furs can be made to look like almost any animal….but I’ve seen some patchy and splotched faux furs in stores and can’t help but wonder “what diseased animal are we SUPPOSED to THINK this came from?” 🙂 I mean…just because it’s faux….doesn’t mean it has to look cheap.
3. Mix it up – If its a faux fur coat (especially cropped) pair it with a short fun dress, some tights, and a shimmery pump for that holiday party. Or perhaps if you have a vest…try either a chunky sweater, shorts, and tights OR you could do an all black simple sweater, a skinny jean, topped off with a fitty leather motorcycle jacket all underneath the vest. The looks are limited only to your imagination.
Overall I think a faux fur is a great staple item to have and hang onto in your wardrobe because you can create so many looks and they always come back in style. I’ve pulled together some faux fur pieces that serve as a stylish and inexpensive way to incorporate this warm and fuzzy look of luxe into your wardrobe….and who doesn’t love that?!
