While schlepping out of the subway the other day I overheard this girl saying she’d be totally shocked if her mom tried this new bold statement…..pink and red — together. Aside from the days of Mod fashion, “would this be a classy combo today,” I wondered? Call me “old fashion” or “un-adventurous” in this area, but there are certain colors in the past that I just tended not to mix…navy and black….pink and red….but what about you? Could even your favorite celebrity daring to be a little different, sway you to be the brightest thing at the office?
I dunno….I might be willing to try it. I mean I’m half way there….I’m a sucker for anything in fuchsia. In an appearance last month on the Late Show…Sarah Jessica Parker was seen in a Prabal Gurung ensemble promoting her film, “I Don’t Know How She Does It.” SJP is only about 5′ 3, but this bold and high-waisted choice for the bottom, elongates her legs and gives her an almost amazon-like look. While I’m not a fan of it paired with the white shoes, I think she pulled it off.
Emma Stone on the other hand wore Giambattista Valli to the premiere of “Friends With Benefits,” and she truly made a statement. It would have been all too easy to finish off the look with a red or fuchsia shoe, but I’m liking the nude Louboutins here. Now that bow may be pushing it a bit, but she too wore it with confidence and “sold” me.
If you’d like to try your hand at color blocking, here are few items I found that can help you get the same “look” for less.
